Overview
Winmail.dat or ATT0001.dat attachments are TNEF encoded files sent by Microsoft Outlook and Exchange. Users with other e-mail clients (like Thunderbird or Lotus Notes) or platforms (like Android, Apple, iPad or iPhone) cannot natively read the winmail.dat files. For more information on TNEF files, see our Winmail.dat files section. Important: Please complete these steps before using your Thunderbird client. Reconfigure folder mapping: Clients configured using Microsoft Exchange protocol use different folders for some of the primary mail folders. For consistency, we highly recommend that you configure Thunderbird to use these same folders. XML requests sent to Exchange servers now set 'utf-8' for Content-Type HTTP header. Logs now redirects to ExchangeCalendar Github community ( #92 ) Code tree has been structured to distinguish parts of the module ( #80 ). On Ubuntu, the standard install of Mozilla Thunderbird does not have the option for Exchange accounts built in. In order to do so, we must install an add-in called ExQuilla.Installing ExQuilla:With Thunderbird open, click on the settings icon in the top right, and select Add-OnsUsing the search bar, look up ExQuillaInstall ExQuilla for Microsoft ExchangeThis will require you.

At IU, Exchange Online delivers the capabilities of Microsoft Exchange Server as a cloud-based service, allowing you to access email, calendar, contacts, and tasks from your personal computer, the web, and mobile devices. Exchange Online integrates fully with Active Directory, enabling administrators to use group policies and other administration tools to manage its features across their environment. Though hosted by Microsoft, Exchange Online is still managed by the IU Exchange administrators and meets the same security and privacy guidelines as the previous Exchange environment.
Exchange Online requires all connections to mail to use two-factor authentication. The Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) platform provides advanced Threat Protection settings and other enhanced controls.
Exchange Online integrates directly into Microsoft Teams at IU, allowing you to schedule meetings and see your Exchange calendar and free/busy information within the Microsoft Teams application. Other Microsoft 365 applications such as Power Automate can also take advantage of the account, storing attachments in Microsoft OneDrive at IU, or setting email triggers on activity.
For details about add-ins for Exchange Online, see About Microsoft 365 add-ins and Microsoft Store apps at IU.
